I had the version without the handles for many years, but when it got a leak, I was upset when I found out that the company is no longer operating. Was delighted to find The Bean through Amazon. It was even better to find one with handles, much easier to carry. I would not want to be without The Bean. It has helped me become stronger, and it gives my abs a good workout. I store it in the closet, so no big equipment to trip over.
 Good Idea But Poor Execution Mar 14, 2010
I have to admit that this was a very good idea in principle, and the items you get in the package are impressive: a 80-minute dvd with numerous workouts on it, a 30-page weight loss guide, a detailed instructional booklet with numerous pictures, a quick inflate/deflate pump, and of course the "Bean" itself. However this is where the company went so wrong, whoever they hired to manufacture the Beans made them with no quality control whatsoever.
I bought this on one of ebay's "deal of the day" promos, it was less than twenty dollars with shipping, but I guess I should have checked the reviews for it beforehand. The first few days it was used, it worked great and it does make it easier to do sit-ups without straining the back, but within a week it sprung its first leak along the top. The included "repair kit" is really nothing but sticky tape that neither sticks nor plugs the leak, despite following the instructions. I ended up using rubber cement which luckily worked far better, since a week later another leak sprung along the top. A couple weeks later another leak developed along the bottom. Now I'm re-inflating it before every use since it seems to deflate so quickly. That's not a big deal but the way it's designed makes it a bit awkward to hook up the pump when it's partially inflated; it hooks up easier when it's completely deflated. I should also mention that the woman using it is only 110 pounds and it was never over-inflated, so straining the seams should not have been an issue.
As for the lifetime guarantee, it appears the company (Greenhouse LLC) that made them is now out of business, their website (the simply titled bean dot com) now has a disclaimer from the owner of the site disassociating him/herself from the company. It's a shame, because as I mentioned it was a very good idea in principle; it doesn't look like a shoddy, quickly put-together product, but it was one in the end.

Love this product. The best ab assisted product so far. Absolutely no back strain, no neck strain. I have been challenged as to how to continue a good workout since finding out I need hip replacement surgery. This can be used effectively and does not cause any strain on the hips or other joints. My children use it and I actually ordered another one so we are able to work out at the same time.

Great for My Back But Constantly Deflates... Dec 14, 2008
I purchased The Bean Deluxe earlier this year after watching the infomercial late one night (or early one morning depending on how you look at it). In theory, it appeared to be a great solution for doing crunches for people like me who have chronic low back pain. But in reality, the quality of the product fell short of my expectations.
Customer Service:
The first thing that put me off was the pushy sales rep who really tried to make a hard sale on additional items EVEN after I stated at the beginning of the call that I was only interested in The Bean Deluxe. Following the call, I emailed the company to offer some constructive criticism about my phone experience and to their credit, I received a quick response and an apology.
Quality of the product:
Initially, I was impressed with The Bean because it was very easy to set up and I got a pretty good workout and best of all, my back didn't hurt. But after only a few uses, I noticed that The Bean kept deflating.
Although it came with a repair kit which solved the problem for a short time, I was a little disappointed that it was already showing signs of wear. I ultimately stopped using The Bean because I didn't want to have to patch it every other time I used it. On a positive note, it makes a great conversation piece AND doubles as a magazine table!
